No. For many people, a simple treatment can reduce or even stop chronic pain within a few months without drugs or surgery. If the survey says you have high risk for chronic pain, you will receive an email invite to join the FUTUREPAIN Intervention Study. The study uses research-based interventions to prevent chronic pain. Everyone in the study will get the treatment to prevent chronic pain at some point.

Anyone aged 18 or older can take the survey! You are welcome to take it whether you have chronic pain or don't have it.

Yes. We use HIPAA-compliant survey technology and password-protected information. Only project researchers can access the data. When the results of this study are published, only data on groups will be reported--no individual data will be reported. If you have any questions about your rights as a participant in this study, please contact futurepain@berkeley.edu.

Yes, but there may be a delay of up to several years. We plan to have a free treatment course available after the FUTUREPAIN study is completed and published.

The FUTUREPAIN survey checks your chances of getting chronic pain in the future. You must first take the survey to be considered for the study. If the survey says you have high risk for chronic pain, you will receive an email invite to join the FUTUREPAIN Intervention Study. The intervention study is a trial that uses research-based interventions to prevent or lessen chronic pain.
